RAC Appeals Process
Allowing even one RAC audit letter to slip through the cracks equates to letting revenue slip directly through your hands. Each provider has the opportunity to appeal the results of claims audited by a RAC. But adhering to a rigid timeline is key to protecting dollars rightfully earned by your healthcare organization. Below is a snapshot of the process and a timeline for each step. Appeals must be filed within 45 days of the RAC audit letter, and failure to do so results in an automatic forfeiture of all dollars for the claim in question.
