ImageSoft, a Michigan IT Solutions Company, Helps Hospitals Solve “Patient
Safety” Issues february 23, 2004
ImageSoft, Inc. announced today it has successfully
achieved its goal of improving patient safety and compliance reporting at Bon Secours Cottage
Hospital in Grosse Pointe, MI. Recently, there has been an increased focus on the number of
preventable medical errors in America’s hospitals. The Leapfrog Group, a patient safety
advocacy group, states, “The problem is not carelessness, but that highly qualified people are
working under stress in a setting with many complex processes. Those processes could be
improved to reduce avoidable errors.”
In mid 2001, ImageSoft installed a powerful IT solution, using workflow, to centralize patient
documents and automate complex healthcare processes at Bon Secours. The solution was
specifically designed for healthcare organizations and creates a single point of access for
patient information. Scott Bade, Vice President of ImageSoft, said, “The goal was to make
complete medical information and patient history available, at the point-of-care, to reduce the
potential for medical errors.”
In a recent meeting at Bon Secours, ImageSoft learned it had exceeded the original
expectations of medical professionals at the hospital. Dr. Ron Laskowski, Director of
Emergency Services, said, “The application has given us the ability to audit ‘high risk’
procedures in real time and automate the notification of predefined ‘abnormals’ for lab testing
and x-ray variances for follow up. The electronic records and increased availability of
information have also improved record completion by the physician group. One hidden benefit
is the ability to quickly create reports to manage compliance with all of the new federal and
state mandates.”
The solution also has integrated revenue cycle management applications that manage the
billing information flow including registration, coding and the EOB resolution processes.
ImageSoft continues to work on adding new applications to its healthcare solution that focus
on patient safety, cost reduction and compliance issues. With assistance from Dr. Laskowski,
ImageSoft plans to add chart viewing, registrations and pre-admissions information capture,
and prescription matching for drug and allergy interaction components.
