RAC implementation schedule
Legislation requires that CMS implement Medicare recovery auditing in all states by January 1, 2010. Thus, throughout 2009, CMS will begin rolling out the RAC program to states in two phases. The map below depicts the schedule for the first 24 states. Though the program began March 1, providers can expect a delay before they will receive their first set of claim audits. Additionally, CMS has indicated that providers won’t begin receiving claim audits that require them to respond with patient medical records until fall 2009.
